The East Bay hills roll along the inland side of San Francisco Bay — Mount Diablo, Pleasanton Ridge, Sunol Regional Wilderness, and Las Trampas. It is a landscape of oak savanna, grassy ridgelines, seasonal creeks, and long views that turn gold in summer and green after the winter rains.
The East Bay Regional Park District was founded in 1934 by a Depression-era ballot measure that passed with 71% approval — the first regional park agency of its kind in the country.
